Presidency and Trio Programme

Luxembourg holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second semester of 2015. This document sets out the Council's work programme as established by the future Italian, Latvian and Luxembourg Presidencies, covering the period July 2015 to December 2015.

Presidency Trio: Italy, Latvia and Luxembourg

Italy, Latvia and Luxembourg constitute the Presidency Trio for the 18-month period from 1 July 2014 to 31 December 2015. The programme and priorities for the 18 months will build on the work successfully achieved by the three countries in the preceding Trio i.e. Ireland, Lithuania and Greece.

Presidency Trio Programme: July 2014 to December 2015

The Trio Presidencies will be committed to the provision of relevant and high-quality official European Statistics to underpin the development, implementation and monitoring of the European Union policies. Taking into account the progresses reached so far, the Trio Presidencies will continue the work on the amendment of Regulation 223/2009, the Extrastat Regulation, the Regulation on statistics of goods transport by inland waterways, the Regulation on rail transport statistics, the Regulation on harmonised indices of consumer prices, the Regulation on balance of payments, international trade in services and foreign direct investment and on the alignment of statistical regulations with the Lisbon Treaty in general. The programme might also take into consideration the Regulation on electricity and natural gas price statistics.

New vision EUROPE 2020

Recognizing the increasing needs of users for statistical data and ever-tightening resource constraints, the Presidencies will emphasize the need for a continuous focus on simplification and re-prioritization, as well as on standardization, harmonization, reduction of costs and the control of response burden.

Presidency Programme: July to December 2015

The overall priorities of the Luxembourg Presidency are set out in the Trio Presidency Programme of Italy – Latvia - Luxembourg.

We highly appreciate the work done and the progress achieved by the Italian and Latvian Presidencies. The Luxembourg Presidency will continue to focus on economic governance and quality issues in statistics and to align the legal framework to the new institutional context. The Luxembourg Presidency will strive to complete the pending dossiers on Rail and Inland waterway transport statistics, Extrastat and Community statistics on balance of payments, international trade in services, and foreign direct investment Regulation.
