This CWPS also started with discussions on the balance of payments file, which resulted in a mandate for the Presidency to open official trilogue negotiations with the European Parliament and the Commission.

This time the main discussions focused on the harmonised indices of consumer prices file (HICP). The Presidency presented its compromise proposal including among other elements a stepwise approach for the eventual inclusion of owner occupied housing prices into the HICP, a different approach on the streamlining of existing legislation and a compromise on research in terms of cost of living index.

As the proposal had met a large approbation of Member States, the Presidency decided to use it as a starting basis for its upcoming trilogue negotiations.

The meeting ended with an update on both transport files.
